BSNL and Pantel Technologies Private Limited (PTPL) have partnered once again to launch Bharat Phone PF300, view Penta Smart PS501, Penta Smart PS650, Penta T-Pad WS707C Tablet.
Two brand new smartphone named Penta Smart PS501 and Penta Smart PS650 would soon be available on the market shelves.
Penta Smart PS501
Priced at 6,999INR, This smartphone by BSNL presents itself to the crowd of low-budget android smartphone. This smartphone is powered by Android OS and is targeting the mass with its low price. Let’s have a quick look, what it packs for a considerably low price.
Talking about the design element first, Penta Smart PS501 seems to inherit the design of Samsung Galaxy S2. With almost every design elemnt carved similarly, it portrays a thin chrome lining along the bezels, Volume rockers on the left and metallic Lock/Power key on the right. It also comes with the same set of touch keys below the screen as seen in Galaxy S2. And if you remember, Galaxy S2 dated long ago. We are on the verge of getting Galaxy S5 with many tweaks in the design element. Saying so, I personally felt the design to be outdated, however we cannot expect much at this price.
No matter what the design is, but BSNL has not compromised with the build quality. The build quality is commendable and feels sturdy in hands. The device may seem bulky at 9.6mm thickness as we have developed a habit of using or seeing smartphones with really thin bezels. The glossy plastic body may the smartphone slip from your hand without a good grip. Even though the build quality is good enough and to be precise, better than Micromax Canvas HD which costs almost 5,000INR more.
I must admit, the display quality of Penta Smart PS 501 is really impressive for a smartphone priced at 6,999INR. It comes with a 5inch IPS screen with 854×480 pixels resolution. However the pixel density for a 5inch lags behind at 196ppi, but BSNL managed to provide a great color saturation overshadowing the pixel density problem. Penta Smart PS 501 gives you a bright and crisp display.
Talking about the Android OS, BSNL even surprised in this aspect by packing up Android 4.2 Stock Android version in their smartphone. You get some preloaded apps like Flipboard and Opera etc. Though the Android version is not the latest but for low budgeted smartphone this is more than enough and most of the mid range smartphone at present are also running on the same version of android and hence BSNL smartphone owners would not be far behind in this terms.
The performance part was not that good even though it has a 1.2GHz dual-core processor combined with 512MB RAM. This is where we felt this device to be a low budgeted device. The smartphone was not that responsive in terms of locking and unlocking. Though the smartphone worked with the number of apps quite well, but after downloading some more apps around 40, the smartphone performance degraded and apps took a while to open up.
Also the Camera aspect of this smartphone is not that good to be talked about. Though it portrays a 5MP rear camera with touch to focus feature, picture captured generally turn out to be blurry. Colors are again good but no proper detailing can be noticed. It has also got a VGA front camera.
The smartphone is a Dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) smartphone with 4GB of internal memory which can be further expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. For the connectivity part it comes with 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS. All this coupled with 1,800mAh battery has been claimed by the company to provide a battery backup of 100hrs (StandBy Time).
Penta Smart PS650
Penta Smart PS650 is another smartphone with a 6.5 inch screen with a price tag of 7,999INR. And as per the claim and our find, this would be the first with this screen size priced under 10,000INR. The screen resolution is 800 x 480 pixels and resembles the same processor and RAM and memory configuration. It has Mali 400 GPU. Penta Smart PS650 comes with a 2,500mAH battery and with 3G, WiFi, Bluetooth and GPS, USB OTG.
PentaBharat phone PF300
PentaBharat phone PF300 is a Java enabled phone with 3inch display. Bharat phone PF300 is based on Java and supports mobile banking, tele-medical care delivery and streaming data delivery. It comes with a price tag of 1,700INR.
Penta T-Pad WS707C
Penta T-Pad WS707C Tablet launched earlier this year sees a price drop and now costs just 6,999INR. This tablet now comes with the upgraded Android 4.2.2. So you are getting the Penta Smart PS 501 smartphone (The smartphone by BSNL) and also the tablet WS707C with same android version for the same price tag.
All these devices comes coupled with DATA plans and talktime offers from BSNL. BSNL offers 3GB of 3G Data along with 300 mins of talk time free for the BSNL network. For the online sales, BSNL and Penta have partnered with HomeShop18 for the sale of Penta Smart PS650 and the WS707C.
