LG had previously introduced the public to its first ever Android smartwatch, price but the prototype they were working with did not get a lot of praise. This basically had to do with Motorola introducing the world to the Moto 360 a little later on. So, LG went ahead and reinvented their former “G Watch” with a new prototype named the “G Watch R.” This new device has a round face to it, which is what the “R” stands for in the name. The design was likely made because LG is trying to compete with Motorola’s new Moto 360 smartwatch, which also has a round screen as well. The Moto 360 is about to be released soon, so LG wanted to introduce the public to their new smartwatch to try to draw attention away from the Moto 360. LG has received a lot of criticism because they appear to be copying Motorola’s business strategy of releasing a more refined product after their competition has released their product. In the end, the consumers will decide which one is the better phone for their money.
What really drew people to the Moto 360 was when Motorola showed off the new Android Wear operating system. Android is an operating system developed by Google that is usually used with tablets. But now, Google made an alternate version of Android that is compatible with smartwatches. The Moto 360 showed it off for the first time earlier in the year and people were ecstatic for it. People often associate any operating system with the first device they see it on. Since the Motorola did such a great job of advertising their smartwatch with the Android Wear operating system, it is going to be kind of hard for LG to impress people with their own Android watch.
In the end, it is all about the features of the smartwatch and which company advertises it the best. The price won’t generally deter people away if the smartwatch looks like it could be useful to them. Of course, smartwatches are not likely going to replace smartphones, which means people won’t pay nearly as much for them. Therefore, these companies have to be very careful on how they price their smartwatches because people will be looking at price as a consideration in this particular market. It seems that those who exercise or have heart problems will greatly benefit from a smartwatch. Those who don’t wear watches or worry about their health probably won’t care to buy one.
