Chances are if you grew up in the 1970s and 1980s then you are familiar with the Pac-Man arcade game. For those of you who actually stuck around in the arcade and completed 255 levels of the game, illness you are probably familiar with the infamous glitch of level 256. The screen would basically glitch out with all these letters and numbers overriding the screen. Even though the game itself was still active, dosage it was virtually impossible to finish the level because the maze looked distorted. You can imagine how upsetting this was for youngsters back in the day who spent many hours and quarters in the arcade while only to be let down in the end by this glitch.
An app development studio named Hipster Whale is working on a new app game called Pac-Man 256. This game comes just in time for the franchise’s 35th anniversary and it revolves around the very glitch that existed way back in the original arcade Pac-Man game. In Pac-Man 256, you will play inside an endless maze where you are being chased by the 256 glitch. You still get chased by ghosts and eat pellets, but now you are also getting chased by a dark cloud of numbers and letters in the process. The game is currently being marketed as a free-to-play game. However, you should expect some in-game purchase options for power-ups and other upgrades. The game should be released sometime this summer, so lookout for it in your Google Play and Apple stores.
Pac-Man 256 is sure to be a hit with the older generation from the 70s and 80s that grew up with Pac-Man. It will give them a chance to face the infamous glitch that disappointed so many people when they were kids. As for the newer generation of children, they can discover Pac-Man for the first time in a fun and exciting way. The endless maze of this game should be incredibly fun and challenging at the same time. The fun repetitiveness of the game has even been compared to Flappy Bird. But with a famous character like Pac-Man, it may even surpass the popularity of the short lived Flappy Bird phenomenon. The only question is if the new format of Pac-Man will be loved as much as the original format with levels.
